Continuing in the spirit of Cate Speaks

It’s nearly time…

Any day now, the date of the next federal election may be announced.

And we’ll be back for it. We’re ready. We’re kind of impatient, truth be told.

But we also know that we’re not alone. There are other people out there, all across Australia, doing similar analysis and sharing it online. This is an open invitation to anyone who’s doing anything like that – no matter how you’re putting it on the net, no matter how much or how little you’re covering. If you’re looking at the parties, candidates and policies of this election, we’re happy to add you to our collection of links here.

So please, let us know what you’re doing and where you’re doing it.

Please note: this is not a call for policies or candidacies of your own. We’ll get to those in due time, but we’re not there yet.

I live in the Sturt electorate in South Australia, a must-watch seat in the forthcoming election, despite it having been held by the Liberals for four decades. Although current polls say Peter Dutton will form government, it might not happen if our incumbent James Stevens can be turfed out.

Apart from the fact it was on a knife edge at the last election, there is a new factor in the form of a Community Independent. Verity Cooper’s campaign launch, which I attended as an interested observer, was held just a fortnight ago, too late for her to build a profile methinks. The Greens claim they could win although on the 2022 results https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/federal/2022/guide/stur I doubt it.

The ALP has more chance, particularly as they won back the state seat of Dunstan in a by-election last year, and that seat sits within the Sturt boundaries. If the community independent, the Greens and the ALP exchange preferences, I think we just might get the progressive result many of us have been campaigning and longing for.
