The Australia First Alliance is a grouping of far right parties who have chosen to join forces in the 2025 Federal Election. (The actual Australia First Party is not a member of the alliance, as it is now legally only permitted to run in local council elections in NSW. Besides, they’re a little too Far Reich for even these parties.)

The key parties in the alliance are the HEART Party, the Libertarian Party, and Gerard Rennick’s People First Party, although the Great Australian Party and Katter’s Australian Party are also somewhat involved – and only Heart has found it necessary to explain, or indeed, mention this arrangement on their party’s website. Now, while most of these parties sound new, only one of them actually is, and even that’s a story:

  • Gerard Rennick’s People First Party — Rennick was previously a member of the Queensland Liberal National Party
  • Great Australian Party — Rod Culleton’s party. He was originally elected as a member of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party
  • HEART Party — formerly the Informed Medical Options Party and the Involuntary Medication Objectors (Vaccination/Fluoride) Party
  • Katter’s Australian Party — founded by Bob Katter, long time independnet, originally elected as a member of the National Party
  • Libertarian Party — formerly the Liberal Democratic Party

In almost all cases, the names have changed, the policies have not. These parties have come together in various combinations to run combined Senate tickets in the ACT, NSW, Queensland and Victoria. This means that if voting above the line, you would vote for the combined ticket rather than a single party. Here’s how it looks:

Australian Capital Territory

Column F: Heart Party / Libertarian Party

  1. Elise Seasrson-Prakaash (HEART)
  2. Martin Brown (Libertarian)

New South Wales

Column I: Libertarian / HEART / Gerard Rennick People First

  2. Michael O’Neil (HEART)
  3. Tracy Sedman (Gerard Rennick’s People First Party)

Column S: Libertarian Party

Victoria

Column O: Gerard Rennick People First / HEART

If that looks complicated and messy to you, you’re not alone. In addition to this, the Libertarian Party is running separately in the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania and West Australia; Gerard Rennick’s People First Party is running separately in South Australia and West Australia; and the Great Australian Party is running separately in West Australia.

We will be covering the three parties running in Victoria individually.
