We’ve assembled a collection of resources on how exactly to go about the physical act of voting. (Unless otherwise specified in the link text, all links on this page go to the AEC website.)

Registering to Vote:

To register, you need to give the Electoral Commission some details – basically, the prove your identity (to avoid duplication in the rolls) and your address (so that you’ll be assigned to the correct electorate). You can do that here, and the deadline to enrol for this election is 8pm local time Monday 7 April 2025.

If you are already registered, but need to update your details – say you’ve moved house or changed your name – you can do that here, with the same deadline. If you’re not sure whether you have updated your details already, you can check that here.

Where to Vote:

For most of us, this will simply mean fronting up at your chosen polling place on the day. There will be a list of them here, although at the time of writing it’s still being finalised – it will be complete before the election.

In many parts of Australia, you can also vote prior to the day of the election itself from April 22 onwards. Locations for that will be available here.

There are also options for voting via post, for Australians who will be overseas on election day, and for people with disabilities. All of those are covered here.

Filling Out Your Ballot Papers:

This is mostly pretty straightforward, but there are some differences between the Upper and Lower Houses:

Voting in the House of Representatives (green ballot):

Voting in the Senate (white ballot):

Combined instructions (both ballots):

If you know of any similar resources, please pass along their links to us, and we’ll add them here.
